Tablescaping

As an advocate for the weaving together of old and new, tablescaping serves as the perfect miniature canvas on which to express my personal style. That a dining table is so often the place where personal stories unfold and where memories are made really heightens the desire to create something beautiful when planning a celebration or hosting guests. Below are the some tips to keep in mind when planning a visual feast.

Old and New

The key to a captivating tablescape often lies in the artful juxtaposition of elements. For example, taking a timeless antique table as your foundation, then layering it with modern, artisanal tableware, or mixing vintage silverware with contemporary, handcrafted ceramics to create a harmonious blend of eras. Let your creativity shine by combining different textures and materials—think aged wood against polished metals or delicate porcelain beside industrial concrete. This eclectic fusion not only tells a unique design story but also sparks conversation among your guests.

Colour

Infuse personality and vibrancy into your table settings by playing with a bold palette. Pair the warmth of antique, richly-hued linens with the clean lines of modern, minimalist dinnerware. Integrate pops of colour through floral arrangements or statement centrepieces. Remember, it's not just about what you place on the table; it's about how those elements interact to tell a cohesive and visually appealing story.

Thoughtful Details

The devil is in the detail, as they say, and this certainly holds true for an exceptional tablescape. Pay attention to the smaller, more intimate aspects of your design—personalised place cards, carefully chosen napkin rings, or even a mix of vintage and modern glassware. Each detail contributes to the narrative of your table, showcasing your dedication to creating a space that is not only beautiful but also thoughtfully curated. It's these thoughtful touches that elevate your tablescape from mere arrangement to curated masterpiece.
